Balaclava Park

Starting out as a random session, Fivel heard the low, dirty beats Brad had recorded and decided he had to lay down vocals. Blown away by the rawness and sincerity of this thrown together track, Damo & Marc lay there parts down. The result was ‘Raw’, track 4 on the ‘Dissolving Life’ CD.
Burning only 2 copies for reference, the unmixed track manages to spread Australia’s east coast in only days. This was the start of a movement. Real GC locals with a real voice for the real GC life. No sugar coated tourist bullshit here.
Over the next few years, the boys would get together from time to time and record whatever was on their minds. Tracks were recorded in bathrooms, bedrooms, garages, in project studios and lounge rooms. It didn’t matter where they were, it was about capturing the moment.
One of the first tracks to be recorded and last to be completed was the feel good GC punk life anthem ‘Gettin’ Wasted’. Making it’s way around the globe, it found it’s way onto Japanese iPods, American radio stations, European cruise ships, UK night clubs and in to more back yards and bedrooms than we ever thought possible.
In 2008, Balaclava Park released ‘Dissolving Life’, a collection of tracks they felt best reflected the local scene. These tracks are largely incomplete, poorly mixed and completely unmastered. We wouldn’t want them any other way. It still amazes us where these tracks show up.
The Balaclava Park crew are: Adrian Schumacher aka Sooky MC, Damien Jurd aka MC Overproof, Aaron Kearney aka Dr. A.K, Brad Weeks aka Papa Woo, Kelly Jones, Michael ‘Deano’ Deanshaw, Bob Prescott, Timmy Burdett aka MC Tru Blu, Harley Coates, Marc Vernon aka Ol’ Dirty Viche, Kiwi Tim, Johnny ‘J. Lo’ Love, Jaan Rudolph, Rick ‘Sicko’ Strang, Fivel McTavish & Luke Martinero.
The ‘Dissolving Life’ artwork is by Cliff Smith.
Update: Balaclava Park will not be releasing their follow up album in late 2010 and have instead decided to call it quits to allow time for other projects.
